In The Bag

Hosting Blog:
A Slice of Cherry Pie

Theme: Mushrooms, Nuts & Herbs

Event Start Date: now
Event Deadline: 14 October 2010

The bag is back!

Back in history, a long long time ago, there used to be a seasonal food blogging event called ‘In The Bag’. In this event, food bloggers from around the world would join together in the challenge of cooking a unique dish from the same bag of ingredients. The finished dishes would then be posted on the participants’ individual blogs and also rounded up in an article on either A Slice of Cherry Pie (http://www.asliceofcherrypie.com) or Real Epicurean (http://www.realepicurean.com). The two organising bloggers have finally got their acts together to re-ignite the bag, and it's back with a vengeance!

For those of you new to this, the idea is that we choose 3 seasonal ingredients each month for you to use to create a dish with and blog about it. If you haven’t got a blog you can use your own website or just Twitter about your dish, using the tag #InTheBag.

September is a great month to be in the kitchen; as we move into autumn we have so much choice. For this month’s bag we’ve chosen:

Mushrooms
Nuts
Herbs

Event Name:
Almond Fresh Giveaway

Hosting Blog:
Diet Dessert & Dogs

Theme: Giveaway (US & Canada only)

Event Start Date: Now
Event Deadline: 5th October 2010

Almond Fresh is a new almond milk on the market. What distinguishes it from the competition is, in part, its location in the supermarket: like fresh salad dressings, homestyle pastas, or tofu packed in water, Almond Fresh is sold in the refrigerated dairy case and must be kept cold, even before it’s opened. It has a deliberately shorter “best before” window than the majority of alternative milks that are sold in aseptically sealed cartons (those that can sit at room temperature for months at a time before you open them). The concept is to make it fresh, pour it into cartons fresh and sell it fairly quickly, as opposed to the sealed boxes that might have been packaged six months before you drink them.

Would you like to try some complimentary Almond Fresh? I’ve got FOUR coupons, each for one free carton of the milk. I’ll be giving them away to four different readers.

In addition, I have a lovely Cuisinart Blender just hanging out in my office (still in the original packaging), waiting to find a new home with one of YOU!

Virtual Girls Night In

Hosting Blog:
Dragon Musings

Theme: Indulgence

Event Start Date: now
Event Deadline: 26 October 2010

What I want you to do is cook yourself something indulgent. This could be that super complicated, triple chocolate, coffee, caramel, mousse monstrosity you always want to try cooking but couldn't justify, or something simple, like a risotto, when you are the only person in the house who eats rice, or maybe try your hand at making bath salts or a mud mask! However you choose to interpret the theme, I want you to treat yourself. Too many times we get caught up in being mothers, sisters, best friends, wives, and lovers, and forget to be just ourselves. So take a moment, and appreciate you for you.

Event Deadline: 20 October 2010

The advantages of living here far and away outweigh the disadvantages – the sea, the fresh air, glorious scenery less than 10 minutes away………………….compared to the smell, noise, crowding etc of living in a city. But it means that I can’t readily drop everything every time I get an invite to some event or other. Like the one I got a few days ago, inviting me to nab a freebie ticket to the BBC Good Food Show at the NEC in Birmingham. Dagnabit!!!!! But when I contacted the lovely Ginny who is a top PR bod for BBC Haymarket Exhibition, she got herself a place on my Christmas card list by agreeing to donate, not one, but 3 pairs of tickets to the BBC Good Food Show – Winter. They’re for general admission only, excluding Saturdays. So a fabby prize, and all you’ve got to do is do my washing up for a year to let me know your best cheese recipe!!!!!!! Then people can vote for their favourites and the top three will be the proud recipients of the tickets.
