Food Events - May 2011

Event Name:
Bookmarked Recipes

Hosting Blog:
Tinned Tomatoes

Theme: Trying out recipes we have bookmarked (Vegetarian)

Event Start Date: now
Event Deadline: 24 June 2011

Ruth gave me permission to resurrect Bookmarked Recipes.

Bookmarked Recipes

I am going to start this challenge every month on the last Sunday. I think Sundays are a great day to try things out. We tend to have more time, but the challenge lasts all month, until the last Friday of the next month.

You may post recipes you have bookmarked from magazines, tv programmes, websites or blogs..... Please credit the author of the recipe and ask them for permission if you are posting their recipe, most bloggers are very nice and don't mind if you ask nicely. If you have just used it for inspiration, still credit where it came from.

My blog is veggie, so please have the courtesy of only posting recipes suitable for veggies or why not suggest a veggie substitute if it is just a couple of the ingredients.

I am going to give a Linky list a go, a visual one that shows your post photos. We will see how it goes and if we all like it.

I do hope this challenge will inspire you to dip back into all those bookmarked recipes.

Invite a Blogger to your Table

Hosting Blog:
More Than Burnt Toast

Theme: Try a recipe with a blogger friend

Event Start Date: now
Event Deadline: ongoing

Your assignment, if you choose to accept it, is to "Invite a Blogger to Your Table"! This is a fun event and an outlet for us each to challenge ourselves and create stronger bonds within the blogging community. Nothing is more intimate, or more effective at creating friendships than cooking and sharing meals together, even it is virtually. But hey, if you live in the same area as another blogger what's to stop you from gathering in your own kitchen for this challenge.

Choose a dish to prepare and invite 1(one) blogger to create that dish with you. You can source your recipe from a cookbook, magazine, blog or any other source. Your dish can be sweet or savoury; easy or complicated.

Decide upon a date that you can both mutually post your recipe within a 4 week time frame.

For many of you who do not know, my roots are kind of related to West Bengal as I was born in a town called Chittaranjan of West Bengal. I am very sure that you have heard about that city, as it has Locomotive Works called CLW where most of India's Railway Engines are manufactured :) I spent almost 18 years of my life going there once every year in summer as my "nanihal" (maternal grand parents' place) was there.

I would encourage you to try new recipes although archived recipes are welcome.

Event Start Date: now
Event Deadline: 15 May 2011

Gives me great pleasure to announce that I would be guest hosting my first event with Herbs & Flowers in my Platter originally started by PJ . Many thanks to her for this wonderful opportunity. My chosen herb is "fenugreek". Fenugreek is used both as a herb (the leaves) and as a spice (the seed, often called methi). The plant is cultivated worldwide as a semi-arid crop and is a common ingredient in many curries.

So, to this wonderful event, I would invite vegan / vegetarian dishes from your kitchen using the herb only (fresh / dried formats).

Event Name:
Summer Coolers

Hosting Blog:
Saffron Streaks

Theme: Cool Summer drinks

Event Start Date: now
Event Deadline: 31 May 2011

Seasonal indulgence or eating right with the seasons is a concept which is being followed by the humans since the dawn of civilization. The obvious reasons behind it is that a given food type is at its peak during a particular season, laden with nutrients and flavour at its best which usually coincide with its harvest season too. So the fruits and veggies do differ as per the seasons, and so the cooking techniques.

# Please send your summer coolers which usually includes fruit mocktails, coolers / drinks, smoothies, fruit punch, vegetable juices and so on.
# Please do not send alcoholic versions of mocktails.
# Please use fresh fruits and vegetables to make the summer coolers, no canned / tinned and frozen fruits / vegetables.

Be creative garnish it with a simple fruit / veg garnish, shaped ice cubes, coloured suger, sugar crystalised flowers in fact any decoration that you wish.

Coolers are any thing that makes you feel cool and quenches your thirst, it can be smoothies, lassis (yoghurt drink), milkshakes, fruit or vegetable juices. Again be creative, garnish it and present it on your blog.

As May is our eight challenge (!!!!) I thought it was maybe about time to shake things up a bit and set a bake based on a technique ... drum roll please!

This month I'd love it if everyone came up with a Chocolate Roulade / Swiss Roll.
