Random Recipes

Hosting Blog:
Belleau Kitchen

Theme: Make Space for some Christmas Charity

Event Start Date: now
Event Deadline: 31 December 2011

I get at least 2 new cookbooks each Christmas and my bookshelves are beginning to groan under the strain and it's very possible that there are one or two books I never use, that I could, in fact, take down to the charity shop to make space for my new books... and a little charity for this time of year is always a good thing... so, for this month's Random Recipes i'd like you to look at your bookshelves and find that book that you just never use and would happily give away (come on, we all have one...) and it's from this book I'd like you to choose your Random Recipe and cook at least one last dish before you give it away.

It's a tough one this month but it really is harder and harder each month to come up with crafty ways to make sure you're all playing to the rules. This time we all have to pick a random recipe for each other...!

Your assignment, if you choose to accept it, is to "Invite a Blogger to Your Table"! This is a fun event and an outlet for us each to challenge ourselves and create stronger bonds within the blogging community. Nothing is more intimate, or more effective at creating friendships than cooking and sharing meals together, even it is virtually. But hey, if you live in the same area as another blogger what's to stop you from gathering in your own kitchen for this challenge.

Choose a dish to prepare and invite 1(one) blogger to create that dish with you. You can source your recipe from a cookbook, magazine, blog or any other source. Your dish can be sweet or savoury; easy or complicated.

Decide upon a date that you can both mutually post your recipe within a 4 week time frame.

How could I resist and not pick 'Christmas' as this months Sweet Heat theme. That's right, I've put my Santa hat on early and thrown open the idea of making some spicy little Christmas recipes. That means it can literally be anything that you consider to be Christmassy so party food; chocolates; baking; edible gifts; soups; turkey or even a chilli themed Christmas decoration will fit the bill (trust me the idea did cross my mind of making a chilli garland as I was threading my chillies to dry a couple of months ago!!)...it's up to you! And since I'm in the giving mood, for this challenge since it is Christmas the entry that I love the most will receive an extra little present to pop under the tree!

With the month of December upon us, the Christmas festivities are fast approaching. It's a time for sharing and caring, eating and drinking and having lots of fun.
As the colours red and green are generally associated with Christmas, the theme for this event is to cook anything for the christmas festivities but you must feature the colour red or green or both  in your dish in some form.
You can do this by either using green or red ingredients in your dish or use them as a garnish, or alternatively you can present your food in a red/green serving dish, or use red /green accessories to compliment your dish and presentation.

We Should Cocoa

Chocolate Log Blog

Theme: Oranges

Event Start Date: now
Event Deadline: Midnight 25 December  2011

After the mixed response we had to the Apple round-up, many of you asked for something "simple please" for Christmas. So, I've been mulling over the possibilities. What about Avocado? It's seasonal and comes from the same neck of the woods as cocoa. What could be more appropriate? Turkey maybe?

But no, I jest. I decided on my choice for this month's We Should Cocoa sometime ago. Seasonal, festive and if you're very lucky you'll find one in your stocking. It is a well established flavour pairing with chocolate and it's one of my favourite colours. The future's bright, the future's Orange!

Event Deadline: 31 December 2011

Fresh or dried beans, lentils, pulses, and/or the sometimes edible pods that contain these seeds, and derivative products like tofu or besan/chickpea flour all come under "legumes". Even tamarind, fenugreek, carob, peanuts, etc. are among some of the other edible plants in the legume family which are included in this event. MLLA is really about legumes of any sort as the main draw. In short, I accept an entry as long as the recipe showcases the legume primarily but not as an auxiliary ingredient.

Event Name:
Sinful Delights

Hosting Blog:
Zesty Palette

Theme: Sinful Delights

Event Start Date: now
Event Deadline: 31 December 2011

Now off to the event at "Zesty Palette" this month. As you read it is all about "Sinful Delights". I know it is the opposite of me to indulge in sinful delights, but I also strongly believe in the fact that moderation is the key. Added to that it is the month of Christmas and I see Christmas similar to what Diwali is to us in India. So I am inviting everyone to link in their sinful delights and make this event a success.

So the event accepts any entry be it sweet or savory which you consider to be a "Sinful Delight". There is no restriction on the mode of cooking. Some examples of acceptable entries would be mysore pak, rasamalai, vadai, rich side dishes loaded with cream, butter cookies, pizza, etc.

Event Name:
LGSS - Stuffed Paratha

Hosting Blog:
Zesty Palette

Theme: Stuffed Paratha

Event Start Date: now
Event Deadline: 31 December 2011

This is the second event happening at my space this month. I am guest hosting "LGSS - Lets Get Stuffed Series" started by Vatsala. Parathas were not something which was made at home on a frequent basis when I was growing up, but thanks to my friend Shy I am a lot more into North Indian cooking although South Indian tops the list for the most part :).

So for this event, you can link in any paratha which has been stuffed. To be more clear, the filling should be made separate like paneer paratha, aloo paratha, etc. or the ones where you add stuff to the dough itself like spinach puree paratha, methi paratha, onion paratha, etc.
Thanks Vatsala for letting me host this fun event.

Flavors of Tamilnadu

Sweet Karam Kapi

Theme: Food of Tamilnadu (India)

Event Start Date: now
Event Deadline: 31 January 2012

I am starting this new event, Cooking Challenge Series, and to start with The Flavors of Tamilnadu.
Chettinad cuisine hails from the deep southern region of Tamil Nadu. Chettinad cuisine is far from the cuisine of traditional Tamilian Brahmins—it is one of the spiciest, oiliest and most aromatic in India. And other types are Nanjil cuisine, Nellai cuisine, Kongu cuisine, Pandi Cuisine or Iyengar cuisine are some to be mentioned.
So, lets cook from the flavors of Tamilnadu. It could be the usual sambar, satha-amudhu, or yenna kathirikai. Anything that belongs to the Tamilnadu cuisine.
